In our weekly science elective, Mrs. Golay taught students all about how our bodies work. Students learned the scientific names of bones and organs. They also learned how the body processes food, how the heart and lungs work, and how the brain interacts with all of the systems of the body. This life size, hands-on enrichment project was a hit!
The famous Mr. Ziggawat has visited the Kindergarten Judaic Studies class and they are super excited! What, you never heard of Mr. Ziggawat?!
He is the beloved Alef-Bet learning puppet from the Ziggawat Alef-Bet Series. Kindergarten students are on a roll with their Alef-Bet recognition. They utilize many versatile forms of learning, including workbooks, hands-on games, and interactive multi-media, which bolsters their mastery of the Alef-Bet letters. Besides for a giant Mr. Ziggawat stuffed puppet that Morah Nechama has created, each child created their own mini Mr. Ziggawat stick puppet. Mr. Ziggawat joins them to point out Alef- Bet letters and to play Alef-Bet recognition games, such as when an Alef-Bet letter is velcroed onto the puppet's tummy and then matched on a Bingo board. Hands-on learning makes the Alef- Bet come alive and aids in memory retention. The all-around fun creates a feeling of positivity and excitement with regards to Alef- Bet and Judaic learning. This great foundation remains with the students for life. We hope you might also get to meet the famous Mr. Ziggawat one day, soon!
Chickadees and Doves took their learning outside the classroom on their recent trip to the Audubon Nature Center. After studying trees this past month, we were excited to see the them up close and personal.

We started off in the interpretive center where we explored the various levels of a forest, and saw eggs of many types of birds and tails of different animals. We played an interactive fishing game and looked at a real beehive. Then, we hit the trails. We were glad for all the trees over the Wisner Loop trail that we chose to follow, because it allowed for shade on a hot day and long walk. Our Chickadees and Doves braved the long, almost a mile trail walk!
We finished off with a picnic lunch and then headed back on our yellow school bus.
